Calling all mystery lovers!! There has been a murder at May
Memorial Library and it is up to you solve it! Put your
detective skills to work in trying to solve this heinous
crime. Light refreshments will be served. This
program is for an adult audience. Parents please find a
babysitter for the evening. Space is limited and

Meet the
Author Tea with NC author Dawn Shamp
Author of
On Account of Conspicuous Women, set in Roxboro,
NC in the 1920s, portrays four ladies who are poised to take
on pot lucks and politics in this picture of the South. Not
since Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café
has a novel portrayed Southern women with such humor,
intelligence and originality. All four women have their own
dreams and secrets, which may affect others in profound
ways. Together they form the unique cast of rich, remarkable
portrait of Southern friendship, gentility and nostalgia.

Dreams of Dust
This film is about
Mocktar, a Nigerian peasant, who comes looking for work in
Essakane, a dusty gold mine in Northeast Burkina Faso,
Africa, where he hopes to forget the past that haunts him.
In Essakane, he quickly finds out, the gold rush ended
twenty years before, and the inhabitants of this wasteland
and strange timelessness manage to exist simply from force
of habit. The beautiful Coumba, however, is still
courageously struggling to raise her daughter after the
death of her family. Mocktar will soon be fighting not only
to survive, but also to provide a better future for this
mother and her child. In French with English subtitles.

June 10th, 7:00 PM,
Adam’s Apples. This film
tells of Ivan, an unusually optimistic preacher who takes in
convicts to help around the remote, rural church he
ministers to. His newest “helper” is Adam, a vicious
neo-Nazi anxiously serving his community service time so he
can return to hell-raising. Asked to set a goal for his
stay, Adam sarcastically answers that he’d like to bake a
pie. Ivan cheerfully takes that statement at face value and
puts him in charge of the parish’s pride and joy: the only
apple tree in the vicinity. Grasping the extent of Ivan’s
crazed preternatural determination to look on the bright
side of everything; Adam decides to shake Ivan out of his
rose-colored world. In Danish with English subtitles.

Her Name is Sabine. This
film tells the story of Sabine, a 38-year old autistic
woman, filmed by her sister, the famous French actress
Sandrine Bonnaire. Through personal footage filmed over a
period of 25 years, it is revealed that Sabine’s growth and
many talents were crushed by improper diagnosis and an
inadequate care structure. After a tragic five-year stay in
a psychiatric hospital, Sabine finally finds a new lease on
life, in a home together with young people living with
similar mental and emotional illnesses. In French with

August 5th, 7:00 PM,
Arranged. This film tells
the story of Rachel, an Orthodox Jew, and Nasira a Muslim of
Syrian origin. They are both young teachers at a public
school in Brooklyn. They also have something else in common
– they are going through the process if getting “arranged
marriages” through their respective religious and
traditional customs. With both family pressure on the one
hand, and the rejection of traditional values outside world
on the other, Rachel and Nasira will have to reply on each
other and their friendship to pull them through this
difficult time of their lives. In English. Adult
