Computer Basics

This class is for the beginner.  It will introduce some basic computer concepts, how to use a mouse, and how to use the keyboard.

Prerequisites:

  • No computer experience necessary

 

Internet Searching for Beginners

This class explains the concept of the Internet and shows through hands-on practice how to perform tasks such as opening a browser window, going to specific web addresses, navigating a website, and using a search engine, as well as other skills

Prerequisites:

  • Students must have basic computer skills and be comfortable using a mouse before taking this class.
  • Students should have taken the "Computer Basics" classes or be familiar with the concepts taught.

 

Word for Beginners

This is a very basic course and is designed for the user new to Microsoft Word 2010.  In this class students will create a document, learn to move around in the document, get familiarity with ribbons and tabs, adjust margins, how to format, cut, copy, and paste text and more.

Prerequisites:

  • Basic computer skills are required.

 

Email for Beginners

Students will learn the basics of email including how to compose and send email, how to organize email, how to attach files to email messages, and how to use email contacts.  Students will have the opportunity to sign up for a free email account at the end of the class.

Prerequisites:

  • Familiarity with using the keyboard and mouse and navigating the Internet is required.
  • Suggested classes:  Computer Basics, Internet for Beginners

 

Publisher for Beginners

Learn how to create a flyer in Microsoft Publisher using the templates provided.  Students will learn basic functions in Publisher like formatting fonts, adding graphics, changing color schemes and more.

Prerequisites:

  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills are required for this class.
  • Suggested classes:  Computer Basics 

 

Excel for Beginners

This is a very basic course and is designed for the user new to Microsoft Excel 2010.  Students will learn what Excel is and what it can be used for by creating a simple spreadsheet.  Students will set up a spreadsheet, enter and format data, and do basic mathematical calculations.

Prerequisites:

  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills are required for this class
  • Suggested classes:  Computer Basics, Word for Beginners 

 

Facebook for Beginners

This class will introduce the basics of Facebook. Students will create a profile, learn how to connect with family and friends, and learn how to control privacy settings. Students must have a personal email address in order to sign up for a Facebook account.

Prerequisites:

  • Basic computer, keyboarding, and Internet skills are required for this class.
  • Suggested classes: Computer Basics, Internet for Beginners 

 

PowerPoint for Beginnners

Prerequisites:  Basic computer and keyboarding skills are required for this class
Suggested classes:  Computer Basics, Word for Beginners 

 

Creating a Resume using NC LIVE

This class will teach students how to create a resume using Job & Career Accelerator, a resource available through NC LIVE.  All students must have a personal email address set up before taking this class. Students should bring resume information including employment and education history and reference contacts. Students must be familiar with using a mouse, keyboard, and the Internet before taking this class.

 

Job Search Basics

Job Search Basics presents basic information about online job application process. Purpose is to acquaint participants with online applications, how to locate and complete, and to become more comfortable completing and submitting applications. Presentation runs one hour with a two hour online application lab. Basic computer skills are required. Register to attend, limited to 10.
