Reference and Information Services
In order to best assist you with all of your information needs, the Alamance County Public Libraries offer a variety of Reference and Information Services.
Questions and Answers
The staff of each branch of the Alamance County Public Libraries strives to provide for the information needs of the public, in person, by email or by telephone. The NC KNOWS service connects library users to a librarian through their computers at any time. By typing messages back and forth, library users can get answers, articles and more.
Books, indexes, CD-ROM products and online services may all be used to locate information. For extensive research, the staff will assist in searching for the information needed.
InterLibrary Loan Services
Materials not owned by any of the libraries of the Alamance County Public Libraries may be borrowed via InterLibrary Loan Service. See our InterLibrary Loan guidelines for more information.
Local History and Genealogy Departments
The May Memorial Library maintains a Local History Collection which is accessible during regular library hours. Included in this collection are works on the history and genealogy of Alamance County and its contiguous counties --- Caswell, Chatham, Orange, and Guilford.
In addition, the branch libraries have small collections of historical and genealogical materials that are related to their geographical location. Please call each branch for more specific information about their holdings.
Business Information
Business and manufacturing guides and directories suited to the needs of jobseekers, investors, entrepreneurs, small businesspeople, students, and other interested parties are available for use in each of the libraries, though the most extensive collection of materials is found at the May Memorial Library. Please call each branch for more specific information about materials in the Business Collection.
