June 9, 2009 -- Jenkins~Peer, of Charlotte, NC, has been selected as the architectural firm to design the new public library branch to be built in Elon. The Elon Board of Aldermen voted on June 9, 2009 to award the project to Jenkins~Peer, following a series of interviews with architectural firms having extensive experience in library design. Benjamin Benson, AIA, LEED AP will be the Project Manager. Jenkins~Peer will partner with Henry Myerberg, AIA, of HMA², nationally known for library planning and design. The conceptual design phase is underway for the new library to be built at Beth Schmidt Park, Elon.
Timeline
Aug. 6, 2007 -- The Alamance County Board of Commissioners approved future funding of operating costs for a library to serve the Western part of Alamance County.
Dec. 2007 -- An LSTA Planning Grant was awarded to provide consulting services for the new library Building Program.
Feb. 2008 -- Citizen input was received at two charettes.
May 29,2008 -- The Building Program was presented to the Western Alamance Library focus Group.
Aug. 2008 -- Site discussion began.
Nov. 11, 2008 -- Beth Schmidt Park was chosen as the location for the new library.
Dec. 9, 2008 -- The Library Building Committee was appointed.
Feb. 10, 2009 -- The RFQ to be used for architect selection was approved.
