LIBRARY CARDS
- Applicants for a library card must provide identification which shows their current, local address.
- Children under age 17 must have a parent's signature to receive a card.
- There is a replacement fee of $1.00 for lost or damaged cards.

- Library users must notify the library of any change of address.
CHECK OUT
- Library users must present their library card each time they wish to check out any materials.
Books and materials:
- Most materials are due three weeks from the day checked out.
- The library staff may limit the number of items for checkout at their discretion.
Videos and DVDs:
- Videos and DVDs are checked out for one week.
- Persons must be at least 17 years old to check out videos or DVDs.
- There is a limit of 5 videos and/or DVDs per person at any time.
REQUESTING MATERIALS
- If an item is not on the shelf or belongs to another Alamance County branch, borrowers may ask to be placed on a waiting list.
- Borrowers will be notified when the item is available.
- Borrowers must have a valid library card in order to place a hold on an item.
- With a PIN number, borrowers may place hold requests online.
OVERDUES
- There is a one week grace period on books and materials. Items returned after the grace period will be charged overdue fines from the original due date.
- There is no grace period on videos, DVDs and equipment.
- Overdue notices are a voluntary service of the library. Failure to receive a notice will not eliminate fines. It is the borrower's responsibility to return items on time.
- Fines for books and materials are 20 cents per day per item.
- Fines for videos and DVDs are $1.00 per day per item.
- Borrowers with items more than 3 weeks overdue and/or accrued fines of greater than $5.00 will have their borrowing privileges revoked. Privileges will not be reinstated until the items are returned and the fines are paid.
- Materials returned late to an outside book return box will be charged the normal fines.
- Accounts of $25.00 or more, or with items 49 days overdue will be referred to a collection agency, resulting in a $10.00 service charge.
BORROWING PRIVILEGES
You may use your card at any public library branch in Alamance County. Library materials may be returned at any branch of the Alamance County Public Libraries.
PUBLIC COMPUTERS/INTERNET
Your library card provides access to public computers and internet at all Alamance County Public Libraries. Parent/guardian must sign ACPL's Computer Policy for users under 17 years of age. See ACPL's Computer Use Policy for more information. Charges apply for computer printouts.
RENEWALS
- Materials may be renewed one time only, if no one is waiting for them.
- Borrowers must present their valid library card to renew materials.
- Materials may be renewed by telephone. Borrowers must have their library card in hand and read the card number to the library staff answering the phone.
- Online renewal is also available. Library users interested in renewing materials online should ask library staff for a PIN number.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICES
ILL is a service through which library materials are borrowed from other library systems when not available in Alamance County Public Libraries.
There will be a $3.00 postage charge for each item received.
- Failure to pick up an item requested through interlibrary loan will result in a $3.00 postage charge being added to the borrower’s library card.
BESTSELLER RENTAL
Rental copies of selected bestseller titles are available for $3.00 for three weeks on a first-come, first served basis. This service is sponsored by the Friends of Alamance County Public Libraries.
